New poll shows Harris ahead of Trump in Arizona
Aug. 7
In a recent poll conducted by HighGround Inc., Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump in Arizona. The poll also claimed Democratic candidate Ruben Gallego holds a lead over Republican opponent Kari Lake. The polling was conducted statewide from July 31 through August 5, right after the Arizona Primary election.
Paul Bentz, Senior Vice President of Research and Strategy at HighGround Inc., joined “Arizona Horizon” to analyze the results of the poll.
“I think we saw a little bit of a shift here. There’s some early enthusiasm for Harris,” Bentz said. “Certainly, we saw near the end of the Biden experience that sort of lost momentum and potentially left the state for Trump. Now, in our latest research, we see Harris up by about 2.5 points.”
Bentz pointed out that before President Joe Biden dropped out of the Presidential race, he consistently trailed Trump.
“This is sort of the first bit of data after the primary that demonstrates Harris with a narrow lead,” Bentz said.
According to Bentz, this is a pretty sizeable difference from Biden’s polling numbers against Trump. He said this is the first time that the Democratic candidate has taken a bit of a lead.
“We’re in the honeymoon phase right now. We certainly see there’s already advertising up against Harris, and I expect that this race will be narrow. But this is the first time we’ve seen a Democratic lead,” Bentz said.
As for the U.S. Senate race, Democratic candidate Ruben Gallego is up 11 points over Republican candidate Kari Lake.
“It’s a pretty surprising lead. I think we expected him to be leading, but to be up 11 points, near 50%, is a pretty big deal,” Bentz said. “It shows that there’s not a lot of momentum going for Lake right now.”
