New book explores Arizona National Parks and Monuments

More from this show

Travel writer Roger Naylor published a new book in October titled “Arizona National Parks and Monuments.” The book is filled with facts, history, anecdotes, humor and gorgeous photos of all 34 of our national park units. Naylor joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss his new book.

Featuring 90 color photographs and maps, “Arizona National Parks and Monuments” details all 34 destinations with an overview of what makes each park unique, a thorough description and history, and information about hiking trails, camping, boating, fishing, tours and more. It makes a perfect companion volume to his bestselling book “Arizona State Parks.”

Arizona has three full-fledged national parks, The Grand Canyon, Saguaro National Park and The Petrified Forest, but Naylor wants people to know that, “we also have other National Park units such as National Historic Trails, National Historic Sites, National Heritage Areas, National Recreation areas and so on. I tell you how to distinguish them all in the book.”

Naylor said many people do not realize how many national destinations we have in Arizona .”That’s one of the reasons I wanted to put out this volume, to help them discover not only the big favorites but also the little guys as well.”
