50 years of the Phoenix Film Office

More from this show

The film industry in Phoenix is booming. With great talent and affordable locations throughout greater Phoenix, it is no wonder production continues to grow in Phoenix.

The Phoenix Film Office recently turned 50 years old. The office works on projects ranging from movies and television to music videos and social media content.

“Whether it’s commercials, still photo shoots, student projects, TV shows or reality shows, could be a ’90 Day Fiancé.’ We’re seeing a lot of those dating shows from Netflix coming out here to the Phoenix market. ‘Great Christmas Light Fight’ always comes out here every year to film,” said Phil Bradstock, Film Commissioner of the Phoenix Film Office.

Production companies and major brands often pick Phoenix for its climate and diverse geography, Bradstock explained. On average, the shoots bring in nearly $17 million in direct spending for the Phoenix metro area.

Arizona’s original film tax credit was created in 2005. It gives financial incentives to production crews that choose to film here, including some iconic movies like “Transformers 5.”

Bradstock said other notable films include “Everything Must Go,” starring Will Ferrell, which was filmed in Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood.

Bradstock said on average the shoots bring in millions of dollars, which then goes back to people in Arizona, including crews, talent, food caterers, dry cleaners and alteration companies.
