Free wigs for cancer patients

Cancer Support Community Arizona (CSCAZ) is launching a Wig Salon! The salon will provide free wigs to cancer patients and survivors with any type of cancer at any stage. The grand opening took place Feb. 8, 2025.

Lilian Fonseca, Director of Outreach and Engagement at CSCAZ, joined us to discuss.

Wigs are often necessary for cancer patients, but many insurance companies don’t cover them. The wigs are completely free of charge and open to anyone in need.

In partnership with EBeauty, a nonprofit organization offering free wigs and educational resources for individuals experiencing hair loss due to cancer or other medical conditions, the salon will provide wigs of various lengths, colors and styles all at no cost.

Once a client makes an appointment, they have the choice to pick what length, color and style of hair they prefer. Fonseca said the salon is a community, clients are welcomed into the salon with the phrase “Welcome home!”

“It’s really all about you and it’s all about giving you that wig that you want and that will make you feel confident,” Fonseca said.

This service has been wanted throughout the community of Phoenix for a long time, according to Fonseca’s client’s comments. She feels that this wig service is helpful because it brings them “confidence so they can feel like themselves,” Fonseca said.

“You see the demeanor change when they’re coming in the initial appointment and then at the end of it, they seem like a different person altogether, you can see the joy, that smile is back on their face and that’s priceless to us,” Fonseca said.
