Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes talks lawsuits, Social Security and more

More from this show

Attorney General Kris Mayes’ office has just launched a new website to collect reports about issues people are having with Social Security. Attorney General Mayes joined us on “Arizona Horizon” to talk about this issue and more.

“I am highly concerned that Elon Musk and the Trump Administration will take a wrecking ball to the Social Security Administration,” said Attorney General Mayes. “We need any Arizonan who experiences any disruption to their hard-earned Social Security to report the issue immediately to my office. I refuse to let an authoritarian administration override the rule of law and destroy critical services that millions of Arizonans rely on.”

“You can’t give any president the opportunity to violate the rule of law, and that’s our job. My job as Attorney General is to upload the rule of law and to protect Arizonans. And Arizonans are being harmed massively by many of these actions being taken by the Trump Administration,” said Attorney General Mayes.

When it comes to research, does this impact Arizona?

“Absolutely. In a big way. Both the HHS funding but especially that NIH funding as well,” said Attorney General Mayes.

Effects of election order

“Couple bad things about this election order. Number one: We’re worried about it potentially impacting our ability to cure ballots after election day. We do that, and Arizonans like the ability to cure their ballots. And so we think the executive order could impact that. And then, you know, you’ve got the general issue of the fact that we want to maintain control over our election system. There are other ways it impacts us,” said Attorney General Mayes.
