Conflict continues to rise in the Middle East as Iran’s military said any ships that belong to a country using their frozen assets will be obstructed from transiting the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are continuing, however Iran’s Foreign Ministry denies having these discussions.
President Trump has repeated the threat to destroy Iranian bridges and power plants if there is no progress on a settlement.
Kurt Volker, former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the current state of the Iran War and what could come next.
Volker shared what he believes President Trump wants to see happen as the war continues.
“He wants to amass enough countries, enough support, maybe Arab-Israeli reconciliation, a tax on Iranian proxies in Iran to get the Iranians to stop fighting and agree that the Strait of Hormuz will be open,” Volker said.
Although he acknowledges that this is not what Iran want. He expressed that Iranians want to continue to control the Strait of Hormuz.
Volker also noted that the Russia-Ukraine war has been long “meshed” with the ongoing war in Iran. He touched on the Iranian-made drones that were given to Russia that were used to attack Ukrainian cities.
However, he said that the possibility of these conflicts leading to a “global conflagration” is unlikely.
Volker also discussed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit and talks with President Trump.
“What Ukraine has been offered by President Trump is very important. It is the ability to produce patriot missiles for their air defense in Ukraine under a license from the United States. That helps the United State because it takes the pressure off our stockpiles, it helps U.S. companies. It helps Ukraine. It will even help European and gulf allies,” Volker said.
