Arizonans who applied for SNAP benefits say it was nearly impossible to get their eligibility verified, leaving them unable to receive their benefits. An investigation into the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) shows that out of all calls for eligibility interviews, only 13% of interviews were completed. Nearly 3 million calls during 18 months period were dropped, and almost half a million Arizonans who previously received food stamps were cut from the program.
