Winners of PBS Kids Go Writers Contest to compete nationally

Top stories in statewide K-3 writing and illustration competition now available online

PHOENIX — (June 5, 2013) Eight, Arizona PBS celebrates the 2013 Arizona winners of the annual PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, a national-local competition designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning, by featuring the winning stories on the contest website at www.azpbs.org/asset (click on Upcoming/Contests). The first place winner in each grade moves on to the national competition. National contest winners are scheduled to be announced July 1.

Arizona students in grades K-3 were encouraged to develop their creativity by submitting original stories and illustrations in this annual competition. Eight, Arizona PBS, in partnership with the City of Phoenix Latino Institute and Lincoln Family YMCA announced the first, second and third place winners in each grade level at a special event on April 27. The awards celebration also featured a special appearance by award-winning Arizona children’s author Terri Fields. The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is produced by PBS KIDS Raising Readers, managed by WNED-TV, Buffalo/Toronto and implemented locally by Eight, Arizona PBS.

The 2013 PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest winners are:

Kindergarten:
