Arizona PBS, Cronkite earn 35 nominations for Emmy and Student Production Awards

More from pressroom

Arizona PBS received 19 nominations from the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the most nominations the media organization has received in a single year since before 2013.

Arizona PBS took home nominations in 15 categories, covering a variety of program specials, audio production and program hosts. Four shows received nominations, including “Plate & Pour,” “Art in the 48,” “Arizona Horizon” and “Catalyst.”

“Plate & Pour” received seven Rocky Mountain Emmy nominations, while “Catalyst” received three and “Arizonan Horizon” received one. “Art in the 48” was nominated for two Rocky Mountain Emmys in its first season. “Plate & Pour” and “Catalyst” had similar recognition during last year’s awards, when they first aired.

“Bred for This” also earned an Emmy nomination. The interstitial on Arizona PBS celebrated Black History Month by sharing Black experiences within the community.

The Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honors the art and science of individuals working in television with Emmy awards, and covers the regions of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and southeastern California.

Students at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication also received 16 Student Production Award nominations this year. The awards recognize the best in collegiate and high school journalism, and since 2009, Cronkite students have won 49 Student Production Awards, the most out of any school in the region.

Julia Wallace, the interim general manager at Arizona PBS, said the nominations highlight the relationship between journalists and student journalists at the Cronkite School.

“This shows the power of Arizona PBS, talented professionals and amazing students working side-by-side to produce award-winning work. Every day, we work hard to do the best for our audiences,” Wallace said.

Arizona PBS is based in the Cronkite School.

Last year, Arizona PBS won five regional Emmys. “Plate & Pour” and “Catalyst” were also among last year’s winners.

Below is a list of the Arizona PBS Emmy nominations. The winners will be announced Sept. 19, marking the 42nd Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards.
