Joint ‘Arizona Horizon’/’Horizonte’ to feature News21 documentary investigating race and violence

In the wake of recent events – a mass shooting in which race was a factor and national discussions about immigration – this Thursday, Aug. 8, at 5 p.m., “Arizona Horizon” and “Horizonte” will air a special joint production looking at the issue of hate in America. The show will begin with the News21 documentary “American Hate,” recently nominated for a Student Production Award by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  The film explores the legacy of hate in America, and what it means in the country today.

After the documentary, “Horizonte” host José Cárdenas will moderate a discussion about the challenges of race relations today and the history of race and violence both in Arizona and across the country. Guests include Carlos Galindo-Elvira, the Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League and Dr. Neal Lester, the Director of Project Humanities at ASU.
