Republican Arizona Congressional District 5 candidate, Daniel Keenan, joined Ted Simons as a part of our new “Candidates in Conversation” series to discuss his campaign.

Keenan is running against Mark Lamb in the primary election. Lamb has garnered President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

Looking ahead, Keenan shared what he envisions for the next few months of his campaign.

“I’m looking forward to the next three months of the election. Meeting with all the voters and really hearing my message. Ultimately they’re going to decide this election,” Keenan said.

As for the Republican primary, Keenan says that Republican voters in district five are looking for a “staunch conservative republican” and someone who can also, “carry on the legacy of Andy Biggs”.

Andy Biggs was first elected to serve District five in 2016, previously serving in the Arizona Senate and House Representatives. Biggs is currently running in the Republican primary for Governor of Arizona.

When it comes to issues regarding the southern border, Keenan said that he supports the Trump administration’s actions thus far. Adding that he would not change anything that is going at the moment, saying he would, “look to go further and help President Trump”.

Keenan also shared how he would help to address the rising cost of living, including rising gas and grocery prices.

“We’re going to need to grow the economy. We’re not going to be able to tax our way out of this, we need to have our GDP outgrow inflation. And that’ll get rid of inflation,” Keenan said.

Delving deeper into the economy in the United States, Keenan commented on the state of tariffs and how they have been handled under the current administration.

“Well you can say that Congress is supposed to be taking care of this. But for the last 20, 30 years, they’ve allowed us to get ripped off. And so, yeah, I’m thankful President Trump has taken the bold stance to end the rest of the world ripping us off,” Keenan said.

As a business owner who oversees the building of homes in the East Valley, Keenan says that his business has been unaffected by the tariffs and immigration policies.

Keenan concluded by saying that, “I’m going to Washington to fight for our families, bring down the cost of living, make home affordability a reality again for working class families,”.
