Be My Neighbor Day in Phoenix

March 15, 2025 • Families gathered at the Arizona State Fairgrounds for Be My Neighbor Day during the Thrive to 5 Playfest. Inspired by “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” the event featured meet-and-greets with Daniel Tiger and Katerina, hands-on kindness activities and a donation drive for the Sojourner Center. With special accommodations for young children and those with special needs, the event offered a joyful, inclusive space to celebrate community, caring and creativity.

Week of the Young Child in Parker

April 5, 2025 • The Week of the Young Child celebration kicked off in Parker, Arizona, as over 300 families participated in a day filled with learning, play and community engagement. The event highlighted the importance of early childhood development and brought families together to celebrate their youngest learners.

Navajo Nation Celebrates Week of the Young Child

April 12, 2025 •  The Navajo Nation joined in the Week of the Young Child celebration, honoring early childhood development through activities that uplift young learners, families and educators. The event emphasized the importance of supporting children’s growth during their most formative years.

Yuma County Early Childhood Education Conference

April 12, 2025 • Early childhood professionals gathered at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona, for the annual Yuma County Early Childhood Education Conference. Led by Yanira Martinez, Program Manager, the event offered a full day of free professional development, featuring diverse sessions in English and Spanish. From an inspiring keynote to interactive workshops, the conference supported educators dedicated to nurturing young learners.

Early learning focus of partnership with our sister station in Alaska

April 22, 2025 • Misty Standeford, Program Manager, led early learning camps and PBS Learn and Grow workshops in Kotzebue, Alaska, hosted in collaboration with Alaska Public Media and Arizona PBS. Despite the 1° temperature, Misty showed incredible dedication to supporting families and early learners. Thank you for your commitment to education in even the coldest corners of the country!

10th Annual Hands On STEM Fair in South Phoenix

April 26, 2025 • Held at the Faye Gray Recreation Center in South Phoenix, our Education Ambassador Atharva “TJ” Jordan led a fun-filled “Work It Out Wombats!” activity session for families. The event encouraged creative problem-solving and learning through play, bringing the community together for an engaging educational experience.

Dia de los Ninos event in Somerton

April 28, 2025 • At a Dia de los Ninos event in Somerton, Arizona, Program Manager Yanira Martinez and AZPBS Ambassador Cristina Mercer brought joy to over 300 children, each receiving a special Smile Bag courtesy of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation.

Supporting growing families in Quartzsite

May 2, 2025 • La Paz County Child and Family Resources hosted a lively Community Baby Shower in Quartzsite, Arizona, bringing together new and expectant parents for an evening of food, games, raffles and fun. The event was a great opportunity to support families on their parenting journey and share local programs, including Lantern, a free texting service that sends developmental tips for your child and local, free community events happening in your area.

‘Make a Circle’ event screening

May 2, 2025 • The Pinetop-Lakeside Town Hall hosted a special screening of the award-winning documentary “Make A Circle.” The film, a heartfelt tribute to early educators and a rallying call for change in the child care system, drew an engaged audience from across the community. The event brought together educators, parents and community leaders, highlighting the importance of collaboration in creating a better future for children across Arizona.

May 6, 2025 • The Senior Job and Education Fair in Yuma, Arizona, brought together students, educators and community partners in a vibrant atmosphere focused on career exploration and educational pathways. It was a day filled with meaningful connections, shared resources and a strong sense of collaboration.

Spreading smiles with the winners of the Digital Video Contest

May 8, 2025 • Like the event itself, the 4th grade class at ASU Prep Downtown Phoenix brought energy, creativity and fun to their award ceremony as the winners of the 2024 Digital Video Contest. Featuring wild animals brushing their teeth, their imaginative entry not only entertained but also encouraged healthy dental habits while also encouraging people to learn more about oral health care at HealthySmileLearning.org. Congratulations to these young creators!

Arizona Children’s Association event in Whiteriver

May 16, 2025 • Clifford the Big Red Dog joined the Arizona Children’s Association at the VFW on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona, for a celebration of literacy, language and culture. The event featured interactive activities that encouraged a love for reading. Families enjoyed meeting Clifford, exploring stories and celebrating the power of language and culture in building strong reading skills.

Family Math Workshop in Pinetop-Lakeside

May 23, 2025 • A Family Math workshop held at the Pinetop-Lakeside Public Library was a great success, bringing together families for an afternoon of learning and fun. Early math skills are key to unlocking a brighter future for children, and this Family Math workshop delivered trusted tools and resources in English and Spanish to help families uncover the joy of math in everyday experiences.
