WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix

More from this show

The WNBA All-Star Game will be taking place on July 20, 2024, at the Footprint Center in Downtown Phoenix. Team USA will go head to head with Team WNBA before they head to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will be making their All-Star Game debut. Both women entered the league being the most talented and talked-about players.

Victoria Jackson is a Sports Historian and Associate Clinical Professor at ASU and Director of Sports at the Humanities Institute. Jackson joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss what fans can expect from the big game.

“They keep getting bigger and better!” Jackson said in reference to the WNBA All-Star Game. “The Mercury have a huge fan base; woman’s basketball is huge in the Valley. We have an Olympic year and excitement about an All-Star team playing an Olympic team, which is happening for only the second time in history.”

The rise of the rookie class, with Clark and Reece playing against three Mercury players, also brings further excitement around the game.

Mercury player Diana Taurasi is setting the record for most Olympic basketball tournaments and will be going for her sixth gold medal. Other Mercury players included on the Team U.S.A. roster are Brittney Griner and Kahleah Copper.
