Dementia Caregiving Course
Feb. 26
“Dementia Caregiving: A Guide to Survive & Thrive” is an online, self-paced course that includes carefully designed modules that cover a plethora of topics to help caregivers of dementia patients. Some of these essential topics include managing behaviors, driving, daily care routines, home safety planning, effective communication strategies, and overall self-care.
Dr. Lolita Tramel is a dual board-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who studied at Yale and is the Founder of “Hearts for Dementia.” She initially began this program in honor of her late mother.
The class is priced at $749. But there is a discount being offered right now. The discount will be 30%, and that’ll run through to the end of March. Anyone watching can use the code SAVE30.
Dr. Lolita Tramel joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss more about the program.
“I realized the need for practical tools to support caregivers,” Dr. Tramel said, “If you have education, you can feel supported, you can prepare to tackle any of the challenges that you may face when caring for somebody with dementia.”
Dr. Tramel, who completed her doctorate at Yale University, spent three years focused on research to help people with behaviors and to understand dementia behaviors. She emphasized that the course focuses on helping those who struggle with various behaviors, including repetitive questions, hallucinations, or paranoid delusions.
“I have a step-by-step process that I teach to help people navigate through these things,” Dr. Tramel explained, “…you can watch it at your leisure.”
Also included in the course is a section addressing mental health, teaching strategies to help with paranoia, and delusions.
“It’s so important that caregivers care for themselves,” Dr. Tramel said, “…I have a huge emphasis on that in one of the modules in the course.”
Hearts for Dementia has home care that specializes in supporting people with dementia, as the staff is trained for these situations.
