Breaking down the Arizona Primary Election results

More from this show

The Arizona Primary Election occurred on July 30 and we’ll take a look of the results.

Kari Lake (R) won the U.S. Senate and opponent Ruben Gallego (D) won from the Democratic party.

In the U.S. House 1st District, incumbent David Schweikert (R) won and Amish Shah (D) has the majority vote in the Democratic primary.

The U.S. House District 6 Juan Ciscomani (R) won and opponent Kirsten Engel (D) won.

Justin Heap (R) won Maricopa County Recorder and opponent Tim Stringham (D) won.

Jim Small, a reporter for AZ Mirror, joined Arizona Horizon to discuss the latest details of the election results.

“I think they’re too close to call even though there are clear leaders in all of them,” Small said. He mentions he made a lot of phone calls over the past week to see where people stood on this election and answers went all across the board.

While everyone expected Kari Lake to win as she did, she won by a smaller margin than was expected. “I think if you held this election two months ago you would’ve seen a much larger victory for Kari Lake,” he explained.

“Over the past few months, Republicans have sort of said they need to sound the alarm as Ruben Gallego versus Kari Lake is not a good matchup,” said Smalls.

“Arizonans know who she is, her weaknesses are easily identifiable from the democratic strategy perspective,” Smalls said in regards to Lake.

Trump came out last minute and supported Masters, but originally showed his support towards Hamadeh, which could have tipped some of the numbers.
