Motorcycle adventures to Peru and Machu Picchu

More from this show

Ray Stern and his friend set out on motorcycles to travel through Peru and Machu Picchu. Peru is a big stop for motorcyclists from around the world because of its often excellent roads, amazing scenery and welcoming people. Stern joined us to share his adventures and photos.

Stern, a journalist with “The Arizona Republic,” joined us on “Arizona Horizon” to talk about his adventures.

Why that destination?

“I’m always looking for the next adventure, and motorcycling for me is part of that. I have ridden in Italy and Spain before as well, and trying to convince my motorcycling buddy, Mike, he needs to ride out of the country,” said Stern.

Stern expressed they had planned a trip for 2020, although the pandemic had ruined that. Then Mike and and Stern thought they needed to go somewhere and do something soon. They then came up with South America.

“It was spring, exotic, and when I looked at Peru as a place to go for motorcycles, it’s a place that draws motorcyclists from around the world,” said Stern.

Specific motorcycle spots

“Cusco, the capital of the Incan empire, has a dozen motorcycle rental places. You need an endorsement, and there’s lots of places to go see.”
