President Trump backs two GOP candidates in AZ governor’s race
April 24
President Trump has endorsed two GOP gubernatorial candidates in Arizona. He first endorsed Karrin Taylor Robson and on Monday, he posted that he was also endorsing Andy Biggs, the Congressman from Gilbert. The winner of the 2026 Republican primary for Arizona governor will likely face Governor Hobbs in the general election.
Chuck Coughlin, the President of HighGround, Inc., joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss.
“A lot of people anticipated this because he endorsed Karen at a turning point rally in December of this past year and got a little push back from some of the more conservative parts of the party and then Congressman Biggs announced Congressman Biggs Head of the Freedom Caucus,” Coughlin said.
He said that was when he started to question if there was a trade-off going on. Coughlin believes that the announcement was when the endorsement became doubled.
“You have Turning Point here in Arizona, which is an advocacy organization for very strong MAGA interests and they seem to be supporting Mr. Biggs,” Coughlin said.
What does this mean for Karrin Taylor Robson?
According to Coughlin, “She’s going to have to work hard,” however, she has a range of great resources for her campaign. He said Robson has family who were in public service as well.
“She’s going to have this amazing fundraising advantage. I think in her last report, she had over 4,000 individual contributors, she has a million dollars in her pack, she in the last quarter, she raised over $850,000 just for her campaign so it becomes a turnout campaign,” Coughlin said.
He believes it will be a rough fight.
“You need, in Arizona, in order to win a state-wide election, you need a majority of Republicans but you also need a plurality of unaffiliated voters and I think Mrs. Hobbs would feel advantaged in talking to those types of voters,” Coughlin said.
He said he doesn’t think “anything is off the table.”
