Senator Ruben Gallego on presidential run, Epstein files and more
July 24
U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego (D) has had a busy month, from scheduling a trip to presidential primary state Iowa to voting against rescissions of public broadcasting and foreign aid funds to filing a resolution to get the Trump Administration to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Senator Gallego, who originally ran for senate during the last election cycle, joined “Arizona Horizon” to answer questions about rumors he’s testing the waters for a presidential campaign, the latest headlines out of Washington and more.
When questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein files, Senator Gallego referenced the Trump Administration’s claim over the last 8 years that there was a coverup. However, once President Trump was pressured by his supporters and critics to release the files, the President questioned why people would be interested in the files at all. He then went on to say the files were “boring.”
President Trump said, “Why they would be so interested? He’s [been] dead for a long time. I don’t understand what the interest or what the fascination is. I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff.”
President Trump then said he would allow the American people to have what he called “credible information.”
Since coverage of the Jeffrey Epstein files has increased recently, many, including some of President Trump’s most loyal followers, have criticized the President over how he has handled the release of these files. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is a U.S. Representative from Georgia and loyal to President Trump, said on X that “the base will turn” if President Trump does not release these files.
There have also been concerns raised about whether the release of these files would be detrimental to the privacy of those who were harmed by Jeffrey Epstein’s actions. Those calling for the release are claiming that’s not what is happening.
“We need to protect the victims and their identities,” Senator Gallego said. “We need to protect the witnesses, but that’s not what is happening here. They are trying to prevent everything from moving forward.”
