Banner Golf Lab analyzes golfers health ahead of Waste Management Open
Jan. 22
As the Waste Management Open comes to town, the Banner Golf Lab examines the anatomy of a swing. As part of the Banner Sports Medicine High Performance Lab, the golf lab has one of the most advanced swing suites in the country.
The Banner Golf Lab evaluates and analyzes the body, club, and ball without solely focusing on the swing itself. The team looks at what the body is capable of and how those physical abilities influence the swing.
Tyler Wallace, Director of the Banner Sports Medicine High Performance Lab, joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the lab.

“We look at human movement,” Wallace said, “…we look at human performance, and we look at the technical aspect of golf.”
When someone new comes into the lab, Wallace and his team do a full test and evaluation to look at their human movement profile and how that individual moves. Movement quality is essential to the lab, as they seek to reduce injuries and help people move better so they can swing more efficiently.
“…can look at the mechanics of the swing, and correlate all that data together,” Wallace said, “…where the limiting factors within their movement, their performance, and their golf swing, and where are the areas of opportunity…and from there we’ll personalize a program for them to help them improve those various aspects.”
The model Wallace and his team utilize focuses on improving human movement across all ages and genders. When evaluating an individual, the lab looks to identify muscle imbalances to help the individual move better.
“…once you can move better, then we can create stability, then we create strength, then we create power,” Wallace explained, “…and all that starts to translate into hitting the ball further, as well as more consistently, because you can move better and more efficiently.”
