On “Arizona Horizon,” we discussed two recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings, which include ruling in favor of state laws that put bans on transgender athletes participating in women’s sports, and ruling against campaign finance rules that place limits on the spending done by a national political party committee for individual candidates. Roy Herrera, Founding Partner of Herrera Arellano LLP, joined Ted Simons to discuss these decisions.
We also learned food banks are seeing an increase in demand this summer. The United Food Bank has serviced more people than ever before, with over 130,000 monthly visits from Arizonians, and that number continues to rise along with everyday living expenses. Shayna Beasley, Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer of United Food Bank, joined us to discuss the increasing demands and how to help local food banks.
Finally, we learned about new safety rules being put in place for fireworks in Phoenix. Some of these changes include no fireworks being allowed on any city-owned property or parking areas. To discuss the new rules, we welcomed Captain Rob McDade, Public Information Officer at the Phoenix Fire Department.
