Eight announces Nerd art competition at Phoenix Comicon

PHOENIX — (June 5, 2014) Eight, Arizona PBS launched its first-ever PBS Nerd T-shirt art competition today at the Valley’s premier pop-culture event, Phoenix Comicon, inviting local artists and enthusiasts of all kinds to enter their creative and artistic designs for a chance to be featured on the commemorative t-shirt for the fourth annual PBS Nerd Walk, November 1, 2014. “Part of the fun of the PBS Nerd Walk year after year is getting a hold of the limited edition, commemorative t-shirt that represents the various elements of public media geekery,” says Bob Beard, Eight’s promotions and events coordinator and ‘Nerd-in-Chief.’ “And here at Comicon we’re at the nexus of Arizona’s creative community, so there’s no better pool of talent to draw from.”

Original artwork incorporating the iconic PBS Nerd logo will be accepted until July 15, 2014. Representatives from Eight, Arizona PBS, Bookmans Entertainment Exchange and the national PBS office will select eight finalists whose art will be revealed to the public at an exhibition at Bookmans Entertainment Exchange.

“Bookmans Entertainment Exchange is excited to partner with Eight, Arizona PBS for another fabulous PBS Nerd Walk. We're looking forward to being a part of all aspects, from planning to the big day,” says Katy Spratt, Phoenix community relations manager for Bookmans Entertainment Exchange. “Building community is a goal of Bookmans and we're proud to be working together with PBS to do just that.”
