Holiday specials bring new and returning favorites to Arizona PBS

As 2018 draws to a close, Arizona PBS has a merry and bright lineup of holiday programming, including treats for children and adults alike.

Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
Monday, Dec. 17, at 9 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 24, at 8 p.m.
Tony Award-winning actress Sutton Foster and “Downton Abbey” actor Hugh Bonneville star as guest musical artist and narrator, respectively, for this year’s “Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.” They join the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square, Bells on Temple Square handbell choir, Gabriel Trumpet Ensemble, dancers and actors in an elaborate, Victorian-themed program that celebrates the Christmas season through music, dance, storytelling and pageantry. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 8 p.m.
Join Emmy and James Beard Award-winning chef Lidia Bastianich as she travels to the heartland of America, immersing herself in diverse cultures that provide inspiration for the holidays. See more.

Christmas at Belmont 2017
Friday, Dec. 21, at 9 p.m.
Join Grammy-winning host Sheryl Crow and nearly 700 student musicians, including Belmont School of Music faculty and Nashville Children’s Choir for a production of traditional carols, classical masterworks, world music and light-hearted seasonal favorites. See more.

Purdue 84th Anniversary Christmas Show
Monday, Dec. 24, at 9 p.m.
Purdue University’s musical organizations come together for a concert that combines high-energy holiday favorites and sacred music performed by the university’s massed choirs.

Call the Midwife Holiday Special
Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 8 p.m.
A new nun and four Chinese orphans arrive unexpectedly at Nonnatus House, causing both joy and chaos for the midwives. Meanwhile, Mother Superior falls ill, and it’s time for a new spiritual leader to be elected.

Christmas at St. Olaf: Ris’n with Healing in His Wings
Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 9:30 p.m.
Enjoy lively and festive music, including “Gloria” by Andre J. Thomas, a work arranged for massed choir, soloists, and a full orchestra in a gospel musical style. Also on the program: familiar Christmas carols, beautiful and contemplative choral anthems, and rollicking orchestral flourishes.

Live from Lincoln Center “New York Philharmonic New Year’s Eve with Renee Fleming”
Monday, Dec. 31, at 8 p.m.
The New York Philharmonic, joined by opera great Renee Fleming, present an evening of elegance and sophistication celebrating the intersection of classical music and dance. From Strauss waltzes and polkas to musical pearls from composers like Sondheim, Kander & Ebb and more, the Philharmonic conjures the splendor and sparkle of a night at the ball.

ACL Hall of Fame New Year’s Eve
Monday, Dec. 31, at 9:30 p.m.
Celebrate the induction of new Austin City Limits Hall of Famers Ray Charles, Los Lobos and Marcia Ball, with performances by Boz Scaggs, Gary Clark Jr., Norah Jones and more. Hosted by Chris Isaak.
