GogoGrandparent technology helps seniors live independently

GogoGrandparent, founded by Justin Boogaard, makes it easier for seniors to live independently longer.

With one phone call, users can request rides, grocery deliveries, or home services through trusted partners like Uber, DoorDash, and Instacart. The service also includes GoGoGuardian technology, which enhances safety and reliability for older adults.

Boogaard joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss how the platform bridges the technology gap for seniors and expands access to essential services.

“It was made for my grandma,” said Boogaard, behind the reasoning for creating GogoGrandparent in the first place. Living with her in 2016, for three years, Boogaard, when preparing to move out of his grandma’s house, she became curious about the transportation options in her area. Not comfortable with using a smartphone to call a traditional rideshare app, she recommended that Boogaard create something like that. Now, three years later, his service helps over 100,000 clients.

When Grandma admonished me to make this sort of thing, we thought, “Well, if this doesn’t work,” we were months away from running out of rent, so we would have to leave. “It might help Grandma, let’s do it.” One thing led to another, and nine years later, it’s pretty big,” said Boogaard.

Working with on-demand services like Uber, Lyft, and Instacart, for instance, GogoGrandparent consists of around 600 people managing different services like allowing users to grab medications same day, or within an hour, groceries within a few hours, and hot meals from hundreds of local restaurants near them.

Reflecting upon the progress of the service to his clients, Boogaard said, “It’s critical for being able to rely on the service to continue living in your home independently.”

For the future of Gogograndparent, Boogaard and his team have begun working with different city and county governments with their goal of continuing to help people continue to live in their communities rather than occupying skilled nursing facilities.
