Latest on war in Iran: Russia’s involvement and more
March 19
The U.S. war with Iran has entered its third week. Though the Trump Administration says the war is set to wrap up “soon,” there appears to be no clear end in sight.
More than 140 U.S. service people have been wounded, and seven have died since the U.S. and Israel launched a combined attack on Iran, toppling the oppressive Khomeini regime.
Ongoing conflict affects the supply chain as ships in the critical Stair of Hormuz are attacked. Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, vows to keep fighting.
Russia is allegedly providing information about the location of U.S. troops to Iran.
Dr. Evelyn Farkas, Executive Director of the McCain Institute, joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the latest on the war in Iran.
“I think we’re in the middle of achieving the U.S. objectives,” Dr. Farkas said, “…making sure that Iraq couldn’t lash out at its neighbors…and most importantly, that Iran didn’t have a nuclear weapons program.”
Dr. Farkas explained how Iran’s missile capabilities have been decimated, but the U.S. hasn’t been as successful in eliminating its drones. She also stressed the threat to the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the nuclear material still available for the regime.
“I think President Trump expected this to go the way the mission in Venezuela did,” Dr. Farkas discussed, “…you use your military to achieve your objective…the Iranian regime started to fight back, unlike the Venezuelans.”
According to Dr. Farkas, new problems emerge as oil prices around the world soar, as the regime attacks tankers, oil facilities, and natural gas facilities in the Gulf countries.
“…if you bash your allies, if you threaten to take their territory, Greenland…if you suddenly slap punitive sanctions…out of the blue on them, and then you disrespect them in various ways,” Dr. Farkas said, “…when you want to turn around and ask them for something, they have their moment of kind of retribution.”
