Phoenix Gay Men’s Chorus prepares for season finale

More from this show

The Phoenix Gay Men’s Chorus’ season finale performance, “Broadway Lights,” is happening in late June 2026. Their performance will feature a multitude of iconic Broadway numbers traversing genres and emotions. The show will feature over 100 performers from the Phoenix Gay Men’s Chorus.

Imran Malik, Chorus President of the Phoenix Gay Men’s Chorus, joined “Arizona Horizon” to share more about the Chorus’ upcoming performance and the goals for their chorus.

“Our mission is to unite, inspire, educate, and entertain our audiences through our music,” Malik said when asked about the mission of their organization.

Through their performances, the Chorus is hoping to showcase the importance of LGBTQIA+ representation in the arts. The “Broadway Lights” show will also highlight themes of visibility, resilience and connection through the art of musical theater.

Malik also spoke on the impacts on the community and how it brings people together.

“The chorus has been so groundbreaking within our community,” Malik said. “One we, just with its own members, we are saving lives. People find us and they find that sense of community and that love.

Imran also said that they are not the beginning of the movement, but just building off of ones from the past and creating more for the future.

“Choruses like us have started through different movements. The gay rights movements, the AIDS crisis,” Malik said. “As a place needing a safe space for people and I think we do that today through performances, outreach events and volunteering.”

Though there have been a lot of movements over the years, he says that these last few have been tough for the community.

“It has been pretty challenging. And we see our members even taking on those challenges in the news or issues in our own community, but the fact that we are still here, we are always going to be here as a safe space and also sharing our message through music.”

The final performances are on June 27-28 and for more information on the “Broadway Lights” performance, visit the Phoenix Gay Men’s Chorus website.
