Arizona challenges federal Colorado River water cuts

More from this show

Arizona filed a motion on October 16, 2026, to intervene in Nevada’s lawsuit challenging the federal government’s decision to reduce Colorado River water allocations. The state argues the federal government’s new operating system failed to account for key provisions of the Law of the River. Arizona officials said the framework could lead to more water cuts that would threaten the state’s economy.

Tom Buschatzke, Director at the Arizona Department of Water Resources, joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss how the federal government’s proposed water cuts could affect Arizona and the Colorado River water supply.
