Ken Burns’ latest: ‘The Mayo Clinic: Faith – Hope – Science’

Watch: Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. on Arizona PBS

Arizona PBS recently hosted a special evening with filmmaker Ken Burns at the Tempe Center for the Arts on  Sept. 11, that featured an advanced screening of “The Mayo Clinic: Faith – Hope – Science.”

This two-hour film, featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Sam Waterston, Blythe Danner and Josh Lucas, explores the Clinic’s 150-Year History and What It Means to “Put the Needs of the Patient First.”

Blending historical narrative with contemporary patient stories, “The Mayo Clinic: Faith – Hope – Science” is a timely look at how one institution has met the changing demands of healthcare for 150 years—and what that can teach us about facing the challenges of patient care today.

Following the screening of the film, a panel discussion, moderated by Ted Simons, host and managing editor of “Arizona Horizon,” was held with Ken Burns, Erik Ewers and Christopher Loren Ewer of Ewers Bros. Productions as well as Dr. John Noseworthy, CEO of the Mayo Clinic.

In doing so, it provides insight into ways to make America’s healthcare delivery system more effective, efficient and compassionate.
