COVID-19 makes registering to vote more challenging

The deadline to register for Arizona’s primary election is July 6th. But the pandemic is making for challenges in registration efforts. Horizonte host, Jose Cardenas spoke with One Arizona Program Coordinator, Araceli Villa-Skahz on the impacts COVID-19 has had on registering voters for the primary election.
According to a direct statement on the organization’s website, “One Arizona was formed in 2010 as a direct response to the growing disenfranchisement of voters and to the attack the Latino community in the form of SB1070. Since then, One Arizona has grown to include more than 20 organizations representing diverse communities across Arizona, working side by side to build a culture of civic engagement and democratic participation by registering 190,000 people to vote in 2018 alone.”
So far this year the organization has registered 35,000 new voters and added 14,000 people to the primitive voting list.
