Rep. Adelita Grijalva; birthright citizenship; Aliento’s 10th anniversary

More from this show

In this episode of “Arizona Horizon,” we sat down with Representative Adelita Grijalva (D) from Arizona’s Seventh Congressional District to discuss what she observed at the Florence I.C.E. detention center. The center has come under fire for mistreatment of detainees, poor living conditions and detainees being held longer than allowed.

We also heard from Elizabeth Chatham, Stinson LLP immigration attorney, to learn about Tuesday’s birthright citizenship ruling. President Donald Trump’s efforts to limit who qualifies for automatic U.S. citizenship were unsuccessful as the U.S. Supreme Court sided against President Trump in a 6-3 ruling.

Finally, Reyna Montoya, founder of Aliento, explained how Aliento pledges to stay true to its founding mission of serving immigrant youth as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Aliento is a youth-led nonprofit organization that aims to serve students, DACA recipients and immigrant families.
