Forêt

Forêt is a French-inspired breakfast and lunch spot owned by Chef Sam Greenhalgh and his mother. Nestled in the old Anderson Feed store in Flagstaff, Forêt caters to a diverse clientele, including NAU students, workers and tourists.

“Check, Please! Arizona” guest Pamela Carter describes the atmosphere as “fun to watch” with an array of people. Another guest, Laura Swarts, recommends the Omelet au Fromage, praising it as the creamiest eggs she has ever had.

Farish House

Nestled near the historic Roosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix, Farish House, owned and helmed by Chef Lori Hassler, invites guests to savor what she lovingly refers to as “French grandma food.” The ever-changing menu boasts delights like cassoulets, petit filet, stews and mac and cheese.

“Check, Please! Arizona” guest Pedro Sanchez ordered Farish House’s award-winning tiramisu and said, “It’s the best tiramisu I have had in my life.”

Virtù Honest Craft

Virtù Honest Craft, situated in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale and helmed by Chef Gio Osso, stands as a culinary haven celebrated for its landmark fine dining experience. Nestled within the Bespoke Inn, the restaurant’s outdoor patio boasts lush Mediterranean touches, creating an inviting atmosphere.

“Check, Please! Arizona” guest Catherine Anaya, host of “Horizonte,” indulged in the Buttino, a butterscotch pudding she described as “out of this world.”

Pa’La: Modern tapas spot

Pa’La

Pa’La is a fusion restaurant bringing Italian and Japanese flavors to the Spanish appetizer tapas. The restaurant’s menu changes seasonally, but the main focus is seafood, steak and vegetables.

“Check, Please! Arizona” guests enjoyed the salami and pecorino sandwich on schiacciata bread, roasted polenta, mussels, shrimp and Cavatelli pasta. After tapas, the guests indulged in panna cotta, chocolate cookies and squash pie.

Cornish Pasty Company

Cornish Pasty Company specializes in hand-made pasties, which are savory pastry pockets filled with meat and vegetables. The pasty originated in Cornwall, England, as a handy way for miners with dirty hands to eat lunch.

The menu features over 40 pasties with favorites like chicken pot pie, shepherd’s pie and bangers and mash, including dessert pasties. Each one is served in an English pub-style restaurant with a full bar.

Zur Kate German Restaurant

Zur Kate serves authentic German food that focuses on meat, potatoes and gravy. The owner, Horst Schlembach, immigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1979.

“Zur Kate means ‘old smokehouse’ in northern Germany,” Schlembach said. “Everybody knows everybody. We don’t make fancy food here; it’s kind of like a homemade atmosphere.”

The menu is simple, as Schlembach suggests. Choose from sausages, schnitzels or other German specialties, all served with sides like German potato salad, red cabbage or sauerkraut.

Sorso Wine Room

Sorso, meaning ‘sip’ in Italian, extends an invitation to patrons seeking a laid-back atmosphere. Owner and former Major League Baseball player Mark Teahen takes pride in the establishment’s 32 wines on tap, ensuring a diverse and curated selection.

“Check, Please! Arizona” guest Bill Kunz praised the crab melt for its “big, unctuous flavor.” Another guest, Allison Cuoco, opted for the espresso cannoli and hot cookie, elevating the dining experience.
