Reflecting on 25 years of Tempe Town Lake

More from this show

Tempe Town Lake celebrated its 25th anniversary this month. The creation of the lake in 1997 turned miles of dry river bottom into a major community recreation area while providing flood control. Tempe Town Lake started with flowing water from the Central Arizona Project back in June 1999.

Tempe Town Lake was formerly the Salt River, and between 500 A.D. to 1450 A.D., the Hohokam Native Americans built an extensive canal system.

Former Tempe Mayor Neil Giuliano joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the value of Tempe Town Lake and how the city celebrated its 25th anniversary.
