May 29
More from this showIt’s Friday, which means it’s time for another edition of Journalists’ Roundtable, where we discuss Arizona politics. This week, “Arizona Horizon” host Ted Simons was joined by Howie Fischer of Capitol Media Services, Camryn Sanchez of KJZZ Radio and Jim Small of Arizona Mirror.
This week’s topics included:
- “The Arizona Republic” reports on latest revelations into Mark Lamb (R)
- Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap (R) identified non citizen voters
“The Arizona Republic” reports on latest revelations into Mark Lamb (R):
Howie Fischer: “…I think at some point some of the Republicans, and we’ve seen it in terms of people like David Schweikert that are going to say, this is not a good look and we’re going to lose the seat in a heavily Republican district unless something changes.”
Camryn Sanchez: “It’s not him saying that word and other things but he’s kind of in these conversations like laughing along with it. Like someone will say, oh that person’s this or whatever, and he’ll just be like ha, ha, ha, ha. And not you know push back on it or you know avoid it in any way.”
Jim Small: “And, he has a Republican challenger in the primary, it’s a, you know a construction firm executive. But he’s a political newcomer, not someone anyone’s ever heard of. I think it looks like he might have a little bit of money, but is anything going to happen there? You know, is anything major going to happen to come kind of, come in and sort of, kind of knock over the apple cart on this. And I don’t know yet that we’ve seen any indication of anything like that.
Howie Fischer: “I think one of the problems becomes not that people will vote necessarily for his Republican foe or if he survives the primary, that they’ll vote for the Democrat. I think they may skip the race. There are a lot of people, we saw this with Kari Lake, we saw this with Mark Finchem where I can’t hold my nose and vote for my party’s candidate. And I think there’ll be a lot of people who say, uhh I don’t think so. Now, if the Democrats can do a good GOTV in November, they can in fact take a very popular seat. We’ve seen seats flip over things like that.”
