Albertsons and Kroger merger concerns

More from this show

Dr. Thomas Bates, a professor at ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business, joined Arizona Horizon to discuss the Albertsons and Kroger merger.

The two larger and competing companies are expected to sign off on a deal of $24.6 billion. This merger will help them compete with large companies, like Amazon, which owns Whole Foods.

Dr. Bates explained there is concern surrounding the merger, and since these two companies will no longer be competing with each other, quality could go down and prices could increase.

Some labor unions believe the merger will result in store closures, impacting communities’ access to grocery stores.
