Journalists’ Roundtable: David Schweikert eyes Governor’s race
Aug. 22
It’s Friday, which means it is time for another edition of Journalists’ Roundtable. This week, “Arizona Horizon” host Ted Simons was joined by Howie Fischer of “Capitol Media Services” Wayne Schutsky of “KJZZ”, and Mary Jo Pitzl of “AZCentral and Arizona Republic.”
This week’s topics include:
- Schweikert Considers Run for Governor?
- Hobbs files for Re-Election
- AG Opinion on MVD Voter Glitch
- Fontes Attacks Trump on Mail-In Ballots
- Trump Attacks Oak Flat Mine Critics
Schweikert Considers Run for Governor:
Howie Fischer: “…and so he may be looking for a path. I don’t see it though, I’m not sure there is that space for him inside that (Andy Biggs & Karrin Taylor Robson) group.”
Wayne Schutsky: “I think Karen Taylor Robson is having a hard time getting traction with the group of primary voters she would need to avoid a second place finish like she had last time…she’s definitely made a big Trump-ward turn where she basically is agreeing with everything that comes out of the President’s mouth. But it doesn’t seem to be getting her into the good graces into that MAGA wing of the party, they still seem pretty suspicious of her.”
Mary Jo Pitzl: “…it’s a good way to get your name out there…people are talking about him now.”
AG Opinion on MVD Voter Glitch:
Mary Jo Pitzl: “…and she (Kris Mayes) said look, for this pool of 200,000 sum Arizona voters who were affected, no county recorder can change their registration status, unless they get absolute proof that this person is a U.S. citizen…most of these people…registered to vote before we had the requirement that you’ve gotta show documents proving you are U.S. citizen if you want to vote the full ballot in Arizona.”
Howie Fischer: “But the problem is this is, as they say, an Attorney General’s opinion. While it can be cited to justify what you’ve done, it’s not law, it’s not the Supreme Court.”
